Elohim – God, Mighty Creator
Elohim – God, Mighty Creator
Origin: Genesis 1:1Story: The very first name of God in the Bible. In the creation story, Elohim is used to show God’s supreme power in creating the heavens and the earth from nothing.
Encountering Elohim Today
When we reflect on Elohim as the Mighty Creator, it invites us to stand in awe of His greatness. The sheer scale and complexity of the universe—from the stars in the sky to the intricacies of a single cell—testify to the infinite power of our Creator. Yet Elohim is not only concerned with the grand and the vast; He is also deeply personal. The same God who formed the universe cares for each of us individually.
Psalm 8 beautifully captures this tension between God’s greatness and His care for humanity:
"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him?" (Psalm 8:3-4).
Elohim, the Creator of all things, knows each of us by name and invites us into a relationship with Him. As we encounter the world around us, we can see His fingerprints in nature, in our lives, and in the Scriptures.
